Every once in awhile there comes a trend that grabs hold of the masses and takes me by surprise. Whether it be chunky geriatric sneakers, Barbie size tiny purses, or the resurgence of the scrunchie, there are fads I never anticipate becoming the height of fashion. But lately there has been one look that I am seeing in the most elite of fashion circles and I simply cannot get enough, the Canadian tuxedo.
Let's be real, Canada has us beat in pretty much every capacity; universal health care, a prime minister with a face made for the silver screen, a younger drinking age, but fashion isn't necessarily were I would say they shine. But lately everyone from Leandra Medine to Jennifer Aniston to Brandon Maxwell is embracing the trend of the moment, denim on denim. While the look has been attributed of our northern neighbors, it feels like it would be more at home on Ralph Lauren's ranch in Colorado.
I first took notice way back in June when the incomparable Karlie Kloss wore the look to her weekend long Wyoming wedding celebration surrounded by the likes of Derek Blasberg and Orlando Bloom, and the trend has been going strong ever since.
Perhaps it can be attributed to my early immersion in Native American textiles when my mother worked for the iconic Pendelton brand, but I have always loved quintessential Americana fashion, and it doesn't get more so than denim. And whats even more American than denim? Supersizing your order! I'm so obsessed with this trend that I immediately added this item "to cart" as soon as I saw Leandra in it. The trick is to choose two different washes as to add dimension to your ensemble. The look pairs best with brown suede, chunky turquoise accessories and leather. I cannot think of a more appropriate and chic way to usher in a new season.
