With so many heavy topics dominating our worlds at the moment, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate time to share the little things that are bringing me joy at the moment. Sometime’s it’s just the little things, like the striking images above, and the Instagram accounts that provided them, or my rigid quarantine cocktail hour that commences at 5pm, we need to embrace whatever is making us happy.
Gary Janetti’s Book, Do You Mind if I Cancel?(Things That Still Annoy me) :
If you’re familiar with Gary’s laugh out loud instagram account that primarily is dedicated to Prince George memes, or ever watched Will & Grace or Family guy (or most recently of Bradbucks fame), you know just how talented Janetti is. In his literary debut, Gary uses a Jerry Seinfeld-esque style to catalogue the pains and hilarity of his everyday life. The book can’t help but put a smile on your face or a deep laugh in your belly. It’s the perfect way to fill the time before the debut of Janetti’s HBO series based on his satirical representation of Prince George and his palace shenanigans.
Toffee Stripe Bow Heels:
These Tuckernuck slides are at the very top of my wishlist.
Marie Kondo’s amazing response: If you managed to miss the food world drama last week, Bon Appetite and Buzzfeed Food editor Alison Roman unnecessarily dragged Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo in an interview about what she deemed was “selling out”. Cutting down two extremely successful, not to mention beloved, women of color in an effort to buildup your brand is never a good idea. The backlash was swift, and IMO completely justified. Teigen took to her favorite medium to articulate just how much Roman’s words “hurt” (sidenote: Teigen was also set to produce Roman’s upcoming cooking show). Roman initially doubled down on her comments, making bad jokes and wishing for someone to “hold her hand in baby’s first internet backlash”, only to quickly realize mocking a Japanese woman’s accent isn’t really a good color. She made a half assed apology, followed, several days later, by a more genuine one. Teigen then graciously accepted said apology, all the while Kondo remained silent. Until posted an meditative instagram with the caption simply “what a week! Taking a moment to center myself and calm my mind. I hope you do something nice for yourself, too!”. Not only did Kondo take a moment to herself, she took the high road. I love her even more now.
Lately I’ve noticed, regardless of how much sleep I get (and believe you me, I’ve been getting plenty), I seem to have consistent bags under my eyes. So I researched countless solutions and potions and after trying several finally found one that works. This The Ordinary solution is a miracle worker and costs $6! All you need is a drop for each eye (I apply it in the morning and at night) and you will see a noticeable difference.
Old Movies:
I’ve been using the quarantime to finally watch classic, or notoriously famous movies, movies. I managed to check off all three I mentioned here (Rear Window instantly became one of my all time favorite films) as well as High Society and American Gigolo. It offers a very attainable sense of accomplish, checking these movies off my list so I’m adding a few new ones. Heartburn staring Meryl Street and Jack Nicholson, Irreconcilable Differences with Shelly Long, Ryan O’Neal, and young Drew Barrymore, and Dial M for Murder with Grace Kelly.
