Fashion Police

there are three nights in television that are just better than all the rest; the emmy's, golden globes, and academy awards. i'm partial to the emmy's because i watch a lot of television, therefore have an entire bibliography of research and feel a level of authority regarding who should win (basically anyone from any show i watch). but let's be real, the best part of the night is the fashion because, honestly, there's no real loser in a room full of millionaires...except maybe sean spicer. the major trends of the evening were feathers, sequins, solid colors, asymmetrical necklines and cleveage. .

let's start with the bad news first. luckily, there were very few misses. however, those who missed, really missed.

WORST

heidi klum
i'm prepared to give this one an audible since i'm pretty sure she mixed up her invitations and thought she was attending a real housewives of orange county bbq

debra messing in ramona keveza
as karen walker would say "how did you hurt your back, running away from good taste?"

sarah paulson: carolina herrera
you know how your mother always advised you to remove one piece of jewelry before you left the house? i kind of wish cinderella's evil step sisters had gotten ahold of paulson before she left to either remove the sequins or the oversized sleeves. you can't have both.

ariel winter
it's not "slut shaming", it's just ugly and inappropriate. cover up.

and worst dressed goes to:
tracee ellis ross in chanel haute couture
proof that even chanel makes mistakes.

now let's get to the good stuff:

BEST

viola davis in zac posen
davis always has a knack for finding the perfect silhouettes and bold colors to compliment her frame and skin tone.

keri russell
now this is how you do feathers.

kiernan shipka in mui mui
i haven't been this jealous of a tween since lindsay lohan in the parent trap. as if knowing jon hamm personally isn't enough, her closet (and fashion sense) is the stuff of my dreams. in my next life, i'm coming back as her. p.s. ariel winter, this is how age appropriate style is supposed to look.

elizabeth moss in atelier prabal gurung
moss won huge last night and i don't just because she walked away with an award. this look was flawless, the perfect shade for her completion and a flattering fit made an effortlessly elegant result.

millie bobby brown in calvin klein
i don't even watch stranger things and i'm still obsessed with millie. she is the most precious thing and i love her youthful red carpret interpretations, note the use of a bandana as a sash!

jessica biel
biel has strong androgynous features that she perfectly balanced with this, extremely feminine and ethereal, look. i don't think she's ever looked better.

and as if there was any contest, best dressed goes to:

the ultimate queen, claire foy in oscar de la renta
i love this look almost as much as i love her show.

there are a few other things we need to discuss,

like my confliction opinion of reese witherspoon's suit dress. while it was flattering and youthful, it felt underdressed for the occasion.

the fact that julia louis-dreyfus appears to be benjamin buttoning.

and that felicity huffman and allison janney wore basically the same dress.

so here's hoping next year i can realize my lifelong career ambition of being an award show seat filler. fingers crossed.
