Fall Staples with the Shopbop Sale

now that we've de cluttered our closets, it's time to fill them up again and what better way than with the semi annual shopbop sale? i'm not exaggerating when i say it's one of the highlights of my year, because the entire site is up to 25% off!

my philosophy is only purchase pieces that are long term investments. i focus on high quality staples in classic, flattering, silhouettes that i won't tire of, and mix in smaller, trendier, statement items. unfortunately, the better the quality, the higher the price so it means i'm unable to afford quite as many pieces as before, but i have come to learn the that if the clothing is classic enough, it lends itself to endless styling possibilities.

sales like these are the perfect opportunity to focus on the bones of your wardrobe. in my opinion, there are actually only a few items you need to build the perfect, versatile, timeless fall wardrobe;

neutral necessities: much like the foundation of a house, the bones of a wardrobe are the most essential pieces one owns. for fall i look for comfortable, flattering jeans, sexy faux leather leggings, vesatile cashmere wraps, and bag that can be worn with just about anything. place your focus on neutral, soothing colors that will allow countless styling possibilities.

stylish sweaters: sweaters are definitely the most functional items in my fall closet. i'm a big believer in the versatility and practicality of a good cashmere sweater. this season i'm focusing on fair isle and more neutrals.

versatile footwear: comfortable footwear is something that occupies a substantial amount of real estate in my brain. since i do a substantial amount of walking on a daily basis, finding a shoe that offers not only function but also fashion is paramount. and once i locate these mythical slippers, i want them to go with as much as possible in my closet. there is nothing more timeless and feminine than a classic ballet slipper, and nothing more functional than a white tennis sneaker.

bold accessories: since i gravitate toward more subtle clothing, i look to accessories to elevate my look. a substantial pair of earrings, a unique hat, or bold pair of sunglasses is the perfect way turn an outfit from basic to show stopping.

statement coat: the final piece of the puzzle is outerwear. suede moto jackets and cozy quilted coats are great basics but the true piece de resistance is a unique statement coat. i love one in a classic silhouette but bold color. you'll have no trouble standing out on the gray city streets.

here are my selections to build the ideal fall wardrobe, and don't forget the code EOTS17
